The Best World Building Guide

Are you a person who loves to write? Maybe the genre that you really love is fantasy. You love it because it gives you a huge scope of imagination, and makes anything and everything possible. It is good to know that you can get help when it comes to world building, which means building a fictional world in which your characters dwell. This is often not easy to do, as world building needs so much imagination. Here, however, are three great tips that you can use for your world building efforts.

1. Do a lot of research. Even if you are creating a fantasy world for your next book, you need to base it on some actual world and culture. For instance, you may want to base it on some ancient culture or some part of the world today. Once you have chosen what you want to base your world on, the next step is to do a lot of research. Make sure you do your research as thoroughly as you can. Don't miss anything! If you dig deep enough, you are more likely to come up with a well-structured world of your own, even if you do not keep 90% of the actual facts of the world that you base your fiction upon.

2. Use any detail that comes to your mind. As you write, a lot of ideas might come up, and you will feel unsure that to do with them. Do you keep them? Let them go? Which ones do you keep, and which ones do you let go of? What you should do is to keep everything at first, and to just let things flow. Later, you can easily edit and cut down the details that you feel don't belong. Having too many of them is certainly better than your world being bare and dry because you were afraid to use some details.

3. Create a history for your world. Creating history for your world is very important. Your readers will want to know a little about how your world came to be, instead of just taking it for granted. Before you start writing, then, come up with a timeline, and mention it in the story. This will make your fantasy world so much more believable and real.

When you follow these three tips for world building, you can be sure that you will be on your way to creating a world that feels real and authentic.
